Foundation Business Objectives
The mission of the Dr. Frank B. Sullivan Memorial Foundation is to support the continuing advanced education of qualified deaf and hard-of-hearing majors in the business and accounting fields.
To meet its objectives, the Sullivan Foundation has granted annual scholarship awards to students majoring in business and accounting fields at three institutions:
Gallaudet University (GU): One Award
~ An annual Excellence in Business scholarship to a senior in the Department of Business. This award was created in 1998 through the auspices of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf (NFSD) Home Office, and has, since 2009, been carried out by the Sullivan Foundation.
Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT/NTID): Three awards
~ An annual Outstanding Student in Business scholarship, begun in 2011, for a deserving associate-level business student enrolled at NTID’s Business Studies Department.
~ An annual Exemplary Business Student scholarship, started in 2013, for a deserving undergraduate business student enrolled at RIT’s Saunders College of Business.
~ An annual Outstanding Masters Degree Business Student scholarship, started in 2017, for a deserving graduate business student at RIT’s Saunders College of Business.
The Foundation’s Other Major Activities:
Fall 2017: The Foundation also signed an Agreement with Gallaudet University to establish the Dr. Frank B. Sullivan Memorial Foundation Endowment of $25,000 to support its Department of Business Entrepreneurship program.
Fall 2017: The Gallaudet Museum received a $25,000 gift for the design and exhibit of dual-sided portable visual displays depicting the rich history of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf (NFSD), a business organization of, by and for the Deaf, which sold fraternal life insurance to deaf members, and which was dissolved in 2010 after being in existence over a hundred years.
February 2019: The Foundation signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) agreement with RIT for the establishment of the Dr. Frank B. Sullivan Memorial Foundation Endowment of $50,000, to perpetuate its awards program for many years to come.
Years 2025 and 2026: On-going progress continues with Gallaudet’s Office of Development to create a new endowment fund in 2026, under the auspices of the new GIEI (Gallaudet Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute) undergraduate program.
